Well this is weird, when I was drawing this picture I had no Idea there was this "Applejack appreciation day coming up!
And this is Applejack as a filly, so It'll explain the blank flank and seemingly huge hat
But anyways, my theory is that both of AJ, Big Mac & Applebloom's parents are dead. However, I don't think they both died at the same time. I think the father might have been killed in an accident on the farm, and the mother got terribly ill. It's really sad to think about, but I think it also makes Applejack's character more interesting. I also think her hat belonged to her father.
MLP:FiM Belongs to Hasbro and was created by Lauren Faust
Not many people can ever dare to pull off something as beautiful, spiritual, and lonely as a desert nighttime view. Usually, when they do, they end up failing. This, however, is possibly one of the most elusive and panorama picture from that that I have ever seen!
There is something very magical about this photograph. Being the star lite sky, the Joshua tree, and Applejack. Applejack has the most emotionally disconsolate sad expression I've ever really seen on her. It's so heart touching and saddening to see her like that. And the Joshua tree under her alone looks like a protector as well as a reminder of death. A perfect eerie mood setter.
I live only 30 miles from Joshua Tree National Park. This place looks almost exactly like this and for that reason i love it even more because there is a personal feel from this picture to me. Amazing job at this work! Just- WOW~!
I agree with the others on this, its quite sad and it shows right here. I like how all the shadowing actually fits the mood of it, even though its at night. Hell, even the star makes me smile. Its as if to say "Applejack, I'm always watching out for you, even when I'm gone." Though, I can't particularly understand why it seems more like a desert area than an area near ponyville or the forest. (Maybe that's just me)Anyway, this was supposed to be the cannon idea, where Apple Jack's parents died, but the creators thought that was too sad for a theme. (Even though they left out more details about the other ponies)So, for them, their parents go away a lot, so they might as well have died.
My theory is that her father was a farmer, but was later drafted into the military where he was killed in...some....big war....with.....um........gryphons...or something. Her mom, on the other hoof, died only minutes after Apple Bloom's birth.
