What a Day for the Fandom

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 8, 2013, 9:17 PM
Yeah, it's another rant journal. If you don't like the ranting then you can just ignore the journal if you want. Here we go...

Let me just start with the news, My Little Pony's getting a movie! [link]
But wait, is it a Friendship is Magic movie? Who the fuck knows, the info's vague.
And there's also going to be a new IP (Intellectual property) for MLP:FiM, for teenage girls and above.
Then, Fighting is Magic got a "Cease and Desist" from Hasbro. [link]

Now, I'm going to talk about these two things and explore the possibilities.

NEW INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

First, the new IP news, the one thing that got my attention from that was the "aimed at teenage girls, and above." Ugh...

Okay there's two possibilities for a new series like this, and I'm going to be honest with it.

1. The new series could explore darker and more mature themes that MLP:FiM couldn't explore, but not too dark. Say, maybe they explore the themes of death, and learning that it's a part of life that's unavoidable, or exploring themes of isolation and loneliness, and fights with friends and hell, maybe losing friends in the end. But, imagine all of that with the same humor, charm, wit, and heartwarming quality as the first two seasons of FIM had. The themes I mentioned above wouldn't be a prominent theme in the series, but they would be plot points for a few episodes. Hell, maybe they would put in some very subtle adult jokes (although I don't know how I would feel about that, to be honest).

2. "OMG HOW DOES THIS DRESS LOOK ON ME" "OMG THE PROM'S TOMMORROW" "OMG CHAD IS SUCH A CUTIE"
I'm not even joking. That's how I see another possibility for that series. Just a school setting with mindless "entertainment" like other shows and DVD's aimed at young teenage girls. Aimed at teenage girls? What the hell are they going to do, "My Little Bratz?"
Might as well have the characters talk about teenage pregnancies, abortions, periods, and tampons for fucks sake.

I don't even know if the team behind MLP:FiM is even going to work on the new IP series. If there's going to be one! Maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't know.

FIGHTING IS MAGIC C&D

Many fans were upset that the upcoming "Fighting is Magic" game was cancelled, due to a cease and desist from Hasbro. I'll admit, I wasn't really excited for it (I'm not really a gamer) but this pisses me off. Sure it was probably coming a mile away, but here's three reasons why.

1. It's non-profit. Something that, I'm sure that the team behind the game stated that many times (if not, let me know) so it's not like Hasbro's losing money. A minimal and, maybe in some of your guys' opinions, a flawed reason to be pissed, but there's still more to come.

2. The team was basically almost done with it, as far as I've heard. There's no doubt about it, I'm pretty sure that Hasbro knew about it like a year ago, with all the hype that was being made for it, seriously, they had to have known about it for sometime. So after all that time, they decide to put out a cease and desist NOW, when the game's almost done, when everybody was anticipating for it, all of that hard work and creative effort. Gone.
WOW. I mean, fucking WOW. That is so unbelievably dickish and horrid to mess with people like that.

3. And probably my biggest reason for hating this move. I don't want to go all hippie-pothead-conspiracy-theorist, but it seems like Hasbro's trying to get rid of the teenage and adult fandom. For whatever stupid fucking reason, I have no idea, it's crazy, and it's a long shot to believe something like that, but really, I've thought about it.
With many things like MLP Online, Friendship is Witchcraft being removed, Derpy getting censored, and alicorn Twilight (which has divided many fans). It seems like they're trying to get rid of the teenage & adult aspect from MLP and make the MLP franchise "girly" again. See, what I like about Faust's vision of MLP was, while it was still aimed for little girls, it was made for all ages and genders, and that's what made it so enjoyable and such a hit. But now Faust's gone so now they can fuck the whole show up.

But anyways, sorry for the rant. Usually in times like these, I would try to be level-headed and open minded, but Hasbro has tried my patience too much, and I'm sick of it. Before, I was just skeptical of Hasbro. But now, I flat-out don't trust them anymore. For sure never buying any of their products again, yeah, I know it won't make a difference, but why waste money on something you don't trust?

Ugh... again, I'm very sorry for the rant.

Just wait for it, lol
When the fandom dies out, and their sales plummet because the fandom doesn't buy their merchandise anymore, maybe then they'll realize how bad they fucked up a good thing.
And then maybe we can try to throw some weight around and get them to change some things up. Alas, a fan can dream.

I got a confession....
at first i was neutral about alicorn twilight. but slightly more bad than good.

then i saw the promo. few minutes ago.
when i heard the voice saying ''the moment you've been waiting for!'' and .... well , the end of this world happening...i got surprised. why?

i fucking cried.

i was keep telling myself ''it won't be too bad , but it really sucks.''
Seeing IT happened in my face for the first time.... i see how bad it is.

took a break while writing this , tears came back. it's putting me in a depression. i hate all the staff of the show so much right now.don't now who got the absolute horrible idea , but i SO don't want to know. You can't make such drastic changes in any show like that. Then i see popular people hating on haters (so much better) , mostly because they're popular , they met the mlp staff , etc. only circlejerking reasons basically.

ponies helped me so much in my life in the last year and half. they saved me. And i feel that without help , they'll kill me...

I find it funny how much bronies are reacting over Fighting is Magic being wiped, but that was pretty uncalled for for Hasbro putting a C&D on the whole thing
And a new movie sounds interesting, I do hope it takes a darker more adult turn like you mentioned but with what Habsro has been doing lately, I doubt any such thing could be happening. I honestly don't know what Hasbro is doing anymore but I've stuck with the MLP franchise for 7 years so I'm not leaving very easily

FYI is needlessly harder to read than default.

I am aware of that, nobody seems to complain about me using it though

Ok, just so you know you would be making people strain to read what you say. Maybe average person does not complain because they just don't read it. Text, it's used to communicate, why make it harder? I know I don't actually have any vested interest in what you say or how you say it, but food for thought when considering how it effects other people.

You can just copy and paste the text in a comment box or somewhere to read it it's not that much of an inconvenience, plus most people I talk to have no trouble reading what I type out. Also I'm having no trouble reading your tiny text so that was pretty ineffective.

...I feel bad.

REALLY BAD.

I feel worse than when I knew about Cupcakes.

Now it seems high time to read that again

But I might be wrong, since I'm a diehard pessimist.

It's actually been a pretty bad week overall for the bronies.
1. Constant ranting, overtly exaggerated remarks of fandom/show dying, and "chill the fuck out" responses all due to the final episode spoilers.
2. John De Lancie stating that he's "disappointed and disillusioned" due to the rampant piracy of the BronyDoc, and production for the extra content being shutdown.
3. Cease & Desist judgment being slammed down on 'Fighting is Magic', most likely cutting off the project's head.

A person can say that all of these events and outcomes should have been expected (Big changes to a main character = utter chaos, Piracy = of course it would happen, Cashbro lawyers strike again), but it still hurts us all. Sometimes, we just can't have nice things.
